BBZone Bodybuilding Supplement of the Month January 2023 - Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate (AAKG)

AAKG

Olympian Labs A-AKG Powder

Muscle size, muscle fullness, vascularity, strength increases, and improved endurance are all the result of super charged cell volumization. Nitric oxide (NO) is present only briefly when a muscle contracts and blood vessel dilates. What it does is increases blood flow. When you exercise, nitric oxide is released causing blood surges, what you experience is called the "pump". However, this is only temporary, which is why you lose that awesome pumped feeling shortly after you finish your workout. What Arginine Alpha- Ketoglutarate does is to extend the release of the NO delivery system. This forces a continuous daily production of nitric oxide, and you get a "perpetual pump". This makes you feel pumped all day, increasing recovering time and making you feel like a million bucks 24/7.

What is the best time to take AAKG? It is best to take the AAKG powder about 20 minutes before training to give it time to enter the nitric oxide cycle and start working. To maintain high AAKG levels for the entire day, you can take AAKG up to three times a day to a maximum dose of 15-18g.

We recommend 2 doses daily 5 times a week with 2 days off. This cycling keeps your body fresh a improves the supplement effectiveness over longer periods of time before taking a 2-3 week break altogether.

BBZone Bodybuilding Workout - Attaining Maximum Arm Size!

Attaining Maximum Arm Size!

The arms are, by far, the muscular areas of the body that interest the greatest number of bodybuilders. Even with limited time and less training equipment both the novice and advanced trainer will somehow find the wherewithal to include some type of arm work in his schedule. As a result of this fascination with arms many new and innovative training routines are constantly being brought to the attention of the arm-happy public.

A training system which allows a terrific pump, increases strength due to the use of heavy weights and can be completed in a short period of time is the ‘two and one system. Here is how it works. You perform two sets of six reps of an exercise, with one minute rest between them. Then immediately following the second set, do one set of another exercise using ten to twelve reps. The first exercise should be of an isolated nature; the second one a compound exercise that uses both the muscle that you are training with assistance of other associated muscles.

This method is particularly effective on triceps that stubbornly refuse to pump up or grow. If you enjoy training heavy and light, then you will enjoy using the “two and one” system. Here is a workout that has proven effective in overcoming many a sticking points:

Triceps

  1. Tricep Pushdowns—2 sets of 6 reps (one minute rest)
  2. Dips—1 set 10-12 reps
  3. Same as No. 1
  4. Same as No. 2
  5. Lying Tricep Extensions—2 sets of 6 reps (one minute rest)
  6. Close grip bench press—1 set 10-12reps
  7. Same as No. 5
  8. Same as No. 6

Biceps

  1. EZ bar curl—2 sets of 6 reps (one minute rest)
  2. Bent forward, Barbell Concentration Curls— 1set 10-12 reps
  3. Same as No. 1
  4. Same as No. 2
  5. Preacher bench EZ bar curl—2 sets of 6 reps (one minute rest)
  6. Shoulder width chins—1 set 10-12 reps
  7. Same as No. 5
  8. Same as No. 6

There are many variations of this type of training which can be used to increase the intensity of the workout. To greatly intensify the workload you can finish off your last set of each exercise by doing about ten single reps with about 30 seconds between each one. Alter your last possible rep, start reducing the weight of the bar and do descending sets for three or more reps until you can not possibly move your arms.

A short, fast productive training session like this will leave your arms flushed, bloated and you will have a sense of accomplishment as you look forward to your next training session.

WHAT'S UP!!

New year coming up and the same old shit is still bugging this sport. Bad publicity abounds about supplements companies still sticking bullshit & even steroids in there shit. It seems like every so called legit news rag in the country had a story last year involving steroids or something to due with bodybuilding in a negative way. The problem is that enough people are not coming out and fighting for the sport of bodybuilding for some reason. Bodybuilding has no more problems than any other sport in this damn country. I will go on to say it has far less, because most practicing the sport do so cleanly, no drugs just hard work. Can't say that about allot of the so called big leagues. We have been saying this shit for the past 19 years and will continue to do so for the next 19. Get off your ass out there people or there will be more senate hearings on limiting your supplements and other health products in the so called name of safety (Its big Pharma and the FDA). Their(FEDS) court cases are coming apart and their grasping at straws along with big pharma so the time to fight is now! As long as we fight and keep them out of our lives the better our lives can & will be!

Oh don't get me wrong we have had some real pieces of shit in the bodybuilding world just like in all other area of life, but steroids didn't do it to these people they were pieces of shit with or without steroids. I remember the New York Times had an article recently highlighting the use of Steroids in the IFBB. Numerous athletes where cited as to have health problems associated with use of certain substances, but come on was anyone surprised? NO! You have guys taking god knows what kind of gear 24/7/365, and stuffing their face every 2 to 3 hours with hundreds of calories just to stay competitive. Then dropping 50-60 pounds once or twice a year with super strict diets, hours of aerobics, saunas, diuretics and thyroid drugs to achieve that bone dry hard look of a champion. Is anyone surprised that this is not healthy? Come on...

It just pisses me off to no end when some body comes out and tells me what I do and believe in is some how worst then the drug user he worships only because they get put on pedestal for hitting a ball, shot a 3 pointer, or scoring a touchdown. Complete bullshit, I am not breaking laws and have media blitzes to cover up the fact that most of the people I associate with or some pretty shitty bastards who can only do 1 thing worth a damn! MY RANT IS NOW OVER!!!

BBZone Q&A MONTH - Getting back in the gym after a long layoff.
Questions of the Month

Question: What is the best way to get back in the gym after a long layoff? L. McKinely, Albuquerque NM

Answer:   There has been NO ONE who hasn't slackened off from time to time and gotten either out of shape, or into less-than-peak-condition as a result of a little self indulgence. So, DON’T FEEL SO BAD! We've all been there and done that! The key to coming back is to do so SLOWLY and CAREFULLY. Let’s say, for sake of easy illustration, you were working with the following poundages before your layoff—

  • Standing Press: 250 lbs. 2x8-1O
  • Curls: 155 lbs. 2x8-10
  • Bench press: 390 lbs. 3x6-10
  • Bent rowing: 365 lbs. 3x10
  • Squats: 315 lbs. x 10, 405 lbs. x 10, 495 lbs. x 8
  • Deadlifts: 225 lbs. x 12, 405 lbs. x 10, 505 lbs. x 6

Get back into training by starting out with perhaps 50% of the pounds you used to use in each exercise. Take maybe three or four weeks to get yourself back into the grooove of training. Do go attempting such heavy work that you get disgusted and discouraged because the strength isn't there. Remember it took years to achieve those poundages. Start out, say, like this —

  • Press: 125-145 lbs. 2 x 8
  • Curls: 65-85 lbs. 2 x 8
  • Bench press: 195-205 lbs. 3 x 8
  • Bent rowing: 140 lbs. 2 x 10
  • Squats: 135x10, 185x10 and 225x8
  • Deadlifts: 135 lbs. x 12, 185 lbs. x 10, and 225 lbs. x 6-8

By using lighter poundages it lets you ease back into your training. You will soon find that your workout starts to feels “right” to you. The workout is sufficiently demanding enough to let you feel that you’re “getting back into the groove of training”, without over-taxing your body and making you start doubting yourself. Soreness will be pleasant and minimal, instead of agonizing, and the fact that you can handle the initial weeks of training easily will make you eager to get at your workout, without being fatigued at the mere thought of training!

After about a couple of weeks, or maybe even a month of doing the light workouts, add a slight amount weight to the work your doing. Then, add a little more every third or fourth workout. Even 2½ pounds is fine (in four weeks that will mean a ten pound increment in the exercise!) and I think more than 5 pounds is excessive at any one time.

Above all, don’t keep dwelling in your mind at how much “you used to lift”! That will drive you batty! Just accept the fact that, like all of us, you slide a bit, and now you must make amends by starting out under your best efforts of the past. If you can keep that attitude uppermost in your mind, then you will discover, sooner than you think, that you are back up there, in great shape and in hard training once again!

Note: A person who has achieved a good physique and who has built up a high level of conditioning can, in our experience, regain it entirely, and-or EXCEED HIS PREVIOUS BEST in a period of no more than three to four short months with consistent dedicated training. Naturally, this assumes that the person’s health is all right, and that there has been no incredible lapse in physical condition (i.e. like gaining 60 pounds of fat, or losing all of one’s power through two years of indolence!).

CVOL POWDER is a sugar-free post-workout recovery drink designed to deliver increases in muscle strength & volume. CVOL has been formulated with 5g of a Creatine Chelate Complex including Creatine Magnesium Chelate. CVOL Powder also contains 2.5g Taurine, 1g L-Carnitine L-Tartrate, 1g Betaine and 800mg Beta-Alanine; a rock-star list of the “go-to” ingredients, dosed at effective levels for rapid recovery from intense training.

Post-Workout Muscle-Recovery Complex!

  • CREATINE - High levels of Creatine in your muscles are essential to creating the high-intensity, short-burst power that you need to push up big weight on the bench or get explosiveness off the line. Increased Creatine stores in your muscles help generate this power. As you get stronger with each workout, your muscles grow very quickly to overcome the progressively increased resistance (weight or speed training).
  • BETA-ALANINE – Most people take Beta-Alanine in their Pre-Workout because “they can feel it working”. But the “pins and needles” effect, called paresthesia, has nothing to do with improving your workout. There is a common misunderstanding as to how Beta-Alanine works. The body needs Beta-Alanine to make Carnosine. Beta-Alanine is paired with L-Histidine to form Carnosine. With ongoing use of Beta-Alanine, the body increases its levels of Carnosine. Because there is a ton of Histidine in the body, the addition of Beta-Alanine ramps up Carnosine production. Once the levels build up, the performance effects begin to take place. Best of all, even if Beta-Alanine supplementation is stopped, it can take as much as two-weeks for the Carnosine levels to drop.
  • L-CARNITINE L-TARTRATE: Post-Workout Recovery Powerhouse – L-Carnitine L-Tartrate (LCLT) acts as a kind of “shield” for your muscles during intense workouts. It protects your muscle tissue from damage that would normally take place as you train. Studies have shown as much as 40% reduction in Post-Workout muscle tissue damage. Most impressively, it has shown to protect not only the muscle, but the hormone receptors on the muscle cells. Supplementation with LCLT has been shown to increase androgen receptor levels in muscle biopsies. LCLT lets your muscles recover faster and grow more quickly in response to your workout.
  • TAURINE - Taurine is an abundant intracellular amino acid in skeletal muscle and similar to creatine, Taurine draws water in muscle cells and acts as a cell volumizer. This in turn draws additional nutrients for recovery and growth, increasing cell volume and enhancing muscle fullness. And like Creatine, Taurine is not present in whey protein, whereas all other essential and nonessential amino acids are.
  • BETAINE - Betaine, usually found in super-foods like wheat bran, spinach and beets, has been included to further enhance strength and power output, and not in a small dosage either – 1,000 mg a day! Betaine has been shown in new research to improve exercise performance.
  • CVOL POWDER : CREATINE ABSORPTION COMPLEX - The Absorption Complex starts with CinnulinPF, the only patented ingredient standardized for doubly linked Type-A Polymers. Science confirms this product’s ability to affect glucose transport through insulin signaling mechanisms. Combined with Creatine in the body, this patented ingredient can improve the level of absorption specific to muscle tissue.

Our Conclusion:

ALLMAX Nutrition CVOL - CVOL is a AWESOME post workout supplement that delivers on what it promises. Your time between workouts will be shorter. Your strength will improve dramatically over the course of a 12 week training cycle. If you are over 250Lbs. you will need to take about 1.5 scoops after raining to get the full results. That is only because your mass will require greater nutrients. Overall a great product for all trainers Recommendation: 8.2 / 10.0
