β-Alanine (or beta-alanine) is a naturally occurring beta amino acid, which is an amino acid in which the amino group is at the β-position from the carboxylate group . The IUPAC name for β-alanine is 3-aminopropanoic acid. Unlike its counterpart α-alanine, β-alanine has no stereocenter.

Beta-Alanine is a non-essential amino acid that is used by your muscle cells to synthesize carnosine. Carnosine is a dipeptide (beta-alanine plus histidine) that functions as a buffer for the hydrogen ions (acid) produced during strenuous exercise, thus helping to maintain optimum muscular pH. In short terms beta-alanine helps your body buffer the latic acid buildup during your sets so that you can get more reps.

Beta-Alanine is backed by scientific research demonstrating that supplementation results in delayed muscle fatigue and rapid recovery time, thereby helping you attain your strength and endurance training goals. This evidence that β-alanine supplementation can increase exercise and cognitive performance has be reproduce in many studies, but there is still concern about lack of information about safety because it is still a realtively new supplement on the market.
