Top 10 Bodybuilding Supplements

Products are arranged in order of importance!!!

Dymatize Elite 100% Whey

Whey Protein:
Protein is the single most important nutrient to a aspiring bodybuilder. You can afford to have a deficiency of all other nutrient categories for a certain period of time and still not fell its ill effects, but with protein its like a car with no wheels, you ain't going nowhere. Whey protein is the best source of quick usable protein on the market today.

Whey protein is a high quality protein powder from cow's milk. Milk has two proteins: Casein (approximately 80%) and Whey Protein (approximately 20%). Whey protein is more soluble than casein and also has a higher quality rating. It is often referred to as the "Gold Standard" of protein powders as it is the most nutritious protein available.

Whey protein is being used today in studies of Cardiovascular Health: with heart disease was the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. The study is aimed at improved diet over time with whey protein as one of the protein sources for improved cardio health as we grow older.

MuscleTech CellTech

Creatine Monohydrate: Creatine Monohydrate(behind Protein) is the most popular and effective bodybuilding supplement ever put on the market. Just about everyone using some form of it is consistently making HUGE, AMAZING gains!

Creatine today has been dissected and prodded and probed by the government to find a way to take if off the market, because when used correctly it just works to good. But to their dismay it just works to damn good with out any hazardous harms to the body.

In todays market you have many varieties of creatine: Di-Creatine Malate, Tri-Creatine Malates, Creatine Anhydrous(creatine with the water removed), Creatine Ethyl Ester, Kre-Alkalyn(Buffered Creatine), or some other exotic form of this amazing supplement. The popularity alone of this supplement makes creatine a absolute staple in anyone's training tool chest.

Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates play major role in how our bodies function. On of the key function of carbohydrates is that they provide energy to our cells and therefore power our bodies. Carbohydrates are our bodies main food source of energy. As bodybuilders and strength athletes we need a good amount of carbohydrates to perform at our optimal levels. The amount of carbs need varies from individual to individual so everyone's needs are different.

There are 2 other major role carbohydrates play in bodybuilding and sports specific training that greatly benefit the athlete. Carbohydrates are said to be a "Protein Sparing" molecule. Carbohydrates are also very very important in how our CNS (Central Nervous System) functions as to our brain and cell to cell communication. We will discuss these two major roles in the next couple of paragraphs.

AST Sports Science DGC

Protein Sparing: Protein sparing effect is exactly what you think it is. We are sparing protein molecules from being use in a certain process, in this case we are keeping the from being use for muscle energy. As you have read carbohydrates are the preferred source of energy for the human body, but when glycogen(form of carbs used by your muscles for fuel) runs out your still working out muscle turn to their own amino acid pools for that required energy. This in turn put your body into a catabolic state to where it is now feeding off of itself. Sipping a low molecular carb solution like some found on the market today with some key aminos added in for quicker recovery efforts keeps you amino acid pools relatively untouched so they can do their job of nourishing your muscles instead of eating them.

Central Nervous System: Carbohydrates are very important for the proper functioning of the central nervous system (CNS). Our brains use blood glucose as its main fuel source. The brain doesn't have a stored supply of blood glucose the way the muscles and liver store glycogen. This is why the last time you were on a low carbohydrate diet you may have not been the sharpest tool in the box. Low carb diets turn people into zombies because their brains are literally starving for food. If your brains starving what do think the other cells in your body are doing. You have amino acids pools drying up because they are being used for energy, but wait cells need these aminos to communicate with each other -- TO BAD!

These are the main reasons carbs have been move up not ahead of amino acids but along side them because their roles in so many bodies functions is extremely vast.

Amino Acids: Amino acids are the smallest molecules that comprise protein, commonly referred to as the "building blocks of life" -- they build all body and tissue protein. 75% of the body's solid weight is made up of proteins and their constituent amino acids. Unable to be efficiently stored in the body, amino acid reserves must be resupplied continuously.

Amino Acids are part of every from of protein you digest. From Whey protein to Soy, each contain and assortment of amino acids. Animal sources include beef, poultry, and fish. There are dairy sources like eggs, milk, cheese and such. Then there is soy and other legumes that also provide you with amino acids.

The main reason to supplement amino acids into your diet is because of the quality of the foods that we are eating. We know that everybody out there is trying to eat food that are protein rich, but amino acid profiles in foods change over time due to many factors. Pork now is leaner then it was in the 80's and chickens are fat now with its faster growth cycles then in the past. Amino acids supplementation covers the short falls in your protein foods consumption. Dorian Yates consumed peptide bonded amino acids along with each of his meals everyday to make sure his protein chains in the foods he ate were complete. The one thing amino acids supplementation is not for is to raise your level of protein consumption during the day.

Allmax Nutrition Micronized Glutamine

Glutamine: Glutamine being one of the most abundant amino acids in human muscle tissue is considered an essential non-essential amino acid because it can be manufactured in the body, but under extreme physical stress the demand for glutamine exceeds the body's ability to synthesize it.

Any athlete in hard training needs to supplement his or her diet with glutamine. This is because they are overusing their skeletal muscles, where much of the glutamine in the body is stored. Athletes who over stress their muscles (without adequate time for recovery between workouts) may be at increased risk for infection and often recover slowly from injuries. This is also true for people who participate in prolonged exercise, such as ultra-marathon runners. For this select group of athletes, glutamine supplementation will be very useful.

MRP's: Meal Replacement Shakes are a very essential part of the today athlete because of the hectic schedules that we all keep. A good sound MRP will provide you with all the essential vitamins, minerals and protein that your body require to help keep you on track in your training.

A MRP is the delicious shake that only takes seconds to prepare and supplies more protein (over the Recommended Daily Value) and more nutrients (essential vitamins and minerals) for less money than many high-calorie fast food meals or virtually any other food you could name - It's a delicious way to feel great!

BSN NO-Xplode

Nitric Oxide: Nitric oxide is a gas. It is highly reactive; that is, it participates in many chemical reactions. To produce this gas, enzymes in the body break down the amino acid Arginine.

Nitric oxide(NO2) is as a major signaling molecule in neurons and in the immune system, either acting within the cell in which it is produced or by penetrating cell membranes to affect adjacent cells. Nitric oxide is generated from arginine by the action of nitric oxide synthase (NOS). Everyone human being needs nitric oxide to carry out key physiological processes within the body. From a bodybuilder's perspective, nitric oxide supplementation may prove useful in increasing growth due to increases in blood flow to certain areas of the body. Remember more blood flow means more nutrients into the cells, which means more muscle growth.

Universal Animal Flex Powder

Glucosamine Sulfate:
Glucosamine Sulfate (also known as Glucosamine Sulphate) is the form that has been tested in dozens of clinical trials. All of the glucosamine forms originated from shellfish, and has been shown since the first clinical studies in 1980 to be effective at easing discomfort associated with arthritis - at least - if not more effectively than common non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as Ibuprofen or Aspirin. Glucosamine sulfate(and HCL) also has very few side effects in comparison to NSAIDS.

There are so many different forms and types and brands of glucosamine out there and the quality varies widely. It is advised that one seek out a reputable manufacturer (one that offers a full, no questions asked, money back guarantee) and follow the old adage that you get what you pay for. It can also be helpful to look at the label before you buy or get recommendations from other people you know that use glucosamine. A good liquid brand should run you about a dollar a day or slightly less and include glucosamine sulfate or HCL or both and other "synergistic" (effective in combination) ingredients as well. Again, glucosamine in tablet form is not recommended due to low absorption issues. Some of the better formulas contain will also contain chondroitin and MSM.

 Beverly International FitTabs

Vitamins & Minerals: Vitamins and Minerals are the single most important supplements that any bodybuilder, powerlifter, fitness competitor and or athlete can take. Protein is important, Creatine is as well but neither works to its fullest with out a very good Multi-vitamin and mineral pack, tablet or capsule. Don't short change your life, find a good product and take it everyday!

ZMA: ZMA is a scientifically designed anabolic mineral formula. It contains Zinc Monomethionine Aspartate plus Magnesium Aspartate and vitamin B-6, and is an all-natural product that has been clinically proven to significantly increase anabolic hormone levels and muscle strength in trained athletes.

Any bodybuilder looking to gain strength, increase athletic performance, and muscle mass should consider taking ZMA. There have been many studies showing that most athletes are deficient in zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B-6. This is not a good thing for any athlete!

Honorable Mention:

PrimaForce Citrulline Malate

Citrulline Malate:
Citrulline Malate is a combination of the amino acid Citruline, which is involved in the urea cycle and Malate, a tricarboxycylic acid cycle (TCA) intermediate – the TCA cycle is a major producer of aerobic energy within the mitochondria. Citrulline Malate has many positive effects on aerobic exercise performance including:

Citrulline Malate works very synergistically with Creatine. After exercise your creatine phosphate levels are depleted and it takes a while for the free creatine in your muscles to be rephosphorylated. With citrulline malate, the rate of phosphocreatine recovery after exercise is increased by 20%! This means that you recover more quickly between weight training sessions giving yourself a better opportunity to grow faster.

Citrulline Malate may also work very well with your NO2 products. Research has shown that Citrulline raises Arginine levels more effectively than taking the same dose of straight Arginine itself. Keeping this in mind then Citrulline Malate's NO enhancing properties are just one of the many unique benefits this nutrient offers to athletes. And if the enhanced pumps and improved nutrient delivery properties are the reason you are using Arginine based NO products, you need to pay attention to Citrulline Malate.

Universal Beta Ala9

Beta-Alanine:
Beta-Alanine is classified as a beta-amino acid (nature's only natural occurring beta amino acid), and is not used in the building of proteins. What makes Beta-Alanine useful in bodybuilding and athletic training is what it does inside of your muscle cells.

Inside your muscle cells Beta-Alanine has the ability to boost the muscles synthesis of carnosine. Carnosine is a naturally occurring di-peptide that is found in both type 1 and type 2 muscle fibers, but is in significantly higher concentrations in type 2 fibers. Carnosines main purpose inside your muscles is help regulate the PH levels with in the cells. You know, acid levels - Lactic Acid levels. The same lactic acid that causes you to stop short of getting that 9 or 10th rep. Well with the use of Beta-Alanine and its Carnosine effect you may just get those extra reps and then some. With the positive signs that are coming from research and test conducted on this supplement with time it could pan out to be top 10 lock in the future.

PrimaForce L-Leucine

L-Leucine:
L-Leucine is last but not least. This little amino acid does quite a bit inside of our bodies. It is an essential amino acid so we must get it from food or supplementation. It is part of the trio known as Branch Chained Amino Acids along with L-Valine and L-Isoleucine. Research shows that L-Leucine can help stimulate muscle protein synthesis and preserve muscle tissue. All this may be way to early but we think L-Leucine in the right amount may reverse muscle catabolism in ingested immediately after working out and preserve and grow muscle tissue if used along with your casein shake before bed time. This one is still ongoing but those that have tried this have said it works very well for them. More time needed.

Conclusion

As you see these are not any exotic substances, but just good old hard working ones that work harder when you work harder. There are no nutritional panaceas out there just good old fashion ones that get the job done!
