Amino acids don't just function as the building blocks of protein, m ost amino acids have many functions with the body itself. Those three essential amino acids provide an alternative energy source for almost all tissues int he body including your muscles. Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) — Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine — alter muscle chemistry by directly stimulating protein synthesis via the mTOR pathway, reducing protein breakdown, and acting as a direct energy source to delay fatigue. They also decrease muscle damage and soreness by lowering markers of inflammation. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Muscle Protein Synthesis (Anabolism): Leucine activates the mTOR signaling pathway, which acts as a switch to initiate muscle repair and growth, especially after exercise.
Suppression of Muscle Breakdown (Catabolism): BCAAs inhibit the breakdown of muscle proteins, reducing muscle wasting and soreness.
Energy Production: Unlike other amino acids, BCAAs are oxidized directly in skeletal muscle for energy (ATP production) during exercise, reducing the reliance on glycogen stores.
Reduced Central Fatigue: By entering the brain, BCAAs compete with tryptophan, reducing serotonin production and thus lowering the perception of fatigue.
Enhanced Glucose Uptake: BCAAs improve glucose metabolism and promote nutrient uptake into skeletal muscle cells. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]tags: athlete nutrition supplements amino acids muscle builder
