Bodybuilding supplements are a subject that has been getting a whole lot of press these last few months. From foreign substances, failed drug test to just out right crap being sold, bodybuilding supplements have gotten its fair share of so really bad press as of late. All of it has been well deserved but as an aspiring new bodybuilder you still need to know that taking the right supplements helps you achieve your goals. This article is a guide to help you get your supplementation off on the right foot and cuts through all the advertising hype to save you money.

A beginning or recreational bodybuilders guide to Supplements.

First get rid of some of the crap information in magazines and on the web. You are a beginning bodybuilder if you have trained for less than 18 months straight. You are a beginning bodybuilder if you have been training on and off for less than 5 years. Your a beginning bodybuilder if you can't tell me how many calories you have eaten and how much of that is protein, carbs or fat. Yeah being a real bodybuilder is hard work but it worth it. You find out how your body responds to different eating plans and training routines based on real data and not guesses. Then you throw in the added benefits of supplements with your training and eating plan you can see quickly if something is working for or against your desired goals. If your training is sporadic and you can't remember 2 days ago let alone and hour ago your going to be wasting your money on supplements no matter what the claims in the mag or on the package. If you have all these things ironed out or are just to stubborn and are going to buy supplements anyway, these are the supplements that will start you on your way toward you goals.

Beginners Supplements:

Multivitamin: I know you see Multivitamin and say - duh! - but I am not talking about a multi that you pick up from your local drug store or grocery outlet. I am talking about a Multi designed for athletes with high levels of b-vitamins and C-vitamins, along with a broad spectrum of minerals). The best one for the beginner in our opinion here is Controlled Labs Orange TRIAD. Its iron free and has a vitamin and mineral spectrum that is ideal for beginners and it cost is very reasonable at about 29$ no matter where you look. Also your dosage cam be adjusted to 3 tablets a day with meals which will last your for 90 days. Thats 10 dollars a month! This beats the hell out of buying some packets that will only last you 30 days and besides that most of your nutrients from these packets will end up being pissed down the drain anyway.

Amino Acids: Amino acid tablets supplement that we recommend for you to start taking. Adding peptide bonded amino acids to you eating plan adds stability to all your meals. Taking 2-3 tablets with you meal assures that the amino acid profile of your meals will be beneficial to your bodybuilding goals by increasing protein assimilation and uptake. We also recommend taking 3-5 tablets follow your workouts with some apple juice. Don't ask us why but this combo seems to work very well for allot of people. We got it from an old timer and every one here swears by it, it just works! Beverly International Mass is fantastic bargin for the purity your getting at about $50 for a bottle for 500 tablets at any store on the net.

Creatine Monohydrate: We said creatine monohydrate not creatine. Creatine monohydrate is what all these new and supposed to be better formulation are based on. Allmax Nutrition Creatine - 100% Pure Creatine Monohydrate is probably the most researched bodybuilding supplement on the planet. Creatine today is being used in medical research as well as for not sports related supplementation. For our purposes we will be using creatine monohydrate as amour pre-and post workout drink of choice. With the purity of todays micronized creatine powders there is no need for loading as in the past. You will need to mix about 1-1.5 teaspons into about 12 ounces of apple or grape juice before an after your workout. With your post-workout drink is where you add the 3-5 amino acids tablets.

Dymatize ISO 100 - Scientifically proven, fast-digesting, hydrolyzed, 100% whey protein isolate!

Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC): Whey protein concentrate is the cheapest and most common form of whey protein. WPC is a byproduct of cheese production. I can here it now, its cheap so it can't work because all the good supplements cost. No, it cheap because of the cheese production in this country is very high and I am glad its cheap because WPC is the best extra protein source you can add to your diet. Now I can hear you saying why isn't up there with the other 3 and down here as an extra. Thats because it is an extra, it extra protein that can be added to your daily intake. Universal Nutrition Animal Whey is a great whey protein concetrate product that taste fantastic and works at what it supposed to do, adding extra protei to your eating paln and doing it with extreme quality. I know you read in the magazines or on websites( even ours) that your should take a scoop or two after workouts or during the day for extra protein. That is true if your are and high intermediate or advanced bodybuilder, powerlifter or athlete. Most people are not in this category, only about 20% of all people that train are. That is not to say don't purchase some if you can afford it, it just that you don't need to use it everyday because it will only be adding calories that you don't need if you eating plan is up to par.

ZMA: This is a total extra for the begining bodybuilder that can be worth the extra cash if you can afford it. Optimum Nutrition ZMA: ZMA is a very cost effective way to add a little anabolic boost to your supplement plan. At just $15 to $20 for a month supply for a natural anabolic that works can be well worth the extra. What your looking for here is just a clean original ZMA formula supplement. It contains Zinc Monomethionine Aspartate plus Magnesium Aspartate and vitamin B-6, and is an all-natural product that has been clinically proven to significantly increase anabolic hormone levels and muscle strength in trained athletes. ZMA is your best bet and is very budget friendly!

Thats it folks, 3 or maybe all 5 of these supplements and you have exactly what you need to start your training and nutritional habits on the right path towards bodybuilding fulfillment. I know everyone expecting some thing like you need to take this many grams of protein a day to alway be in a anabolic environment for your muscles to grow. Yes you do need to take a certain amount of say protein a day, we recommend 1 gram per pound of bodyweight. Any more than that for a beginning bodybuilder is just a waste. the aminos during the day with meals and after training serve the same purpose with out the extra physical burdens. Besides when most of these articles are written the subjects are usually national or professional level bodybuilders that do require extra amount of protein because of the enormous amount of lean mass they are carrying. As for the other whiz bang exotic supplements out there offering to do this or that ask your self one question - If the do what your say they do then how can it still be legal? In that question you already have your answer. Look for our next installment on “Intermediate supplements for extra growth and performance”.
